9/04/09 Good fishing today on the Colorado River. We caught quite a few fish on double streamer rigs. We even had a few double hookups. Black, white and green were the most productive colors.

I did a honeymoon float on the San Marcos with Merlin and Paula Tuttle today. We hooked a few really large fish. Paula started the day by landing a 5 pound smallmouth bass on her first cast. We weighed this one so it really was 5 pounds even though it looks bigger. Merlin hooked a much larger fish but it wrapped around a stump and got away. The fly of the day was a black rubber legged lead eyed bugger.

We did a float on the San Marcos River today. In Spite of the cold cloudy conditions fishing was good. Largemouth, Guadalupe and smallmouth bass as well as a few sunfish. Fish deep and use a slower retrieve. Fishing should continue to be good as temps bounce back in the next few days.

Floated the Lower Colorado River with Shea McClanahan. Fishing was good for largemouth and Guadalupe Bass. We even hooked a few nice catfish. Black and purple leeches were the most productive flies. Colder weather on the way may slow down fishing for a few days.

Fished the San Marcos River today. Fishing was good. we caught fish on black an purple leeches, Clouser minnows and a few fish on poppers. The best fly of the day was a brown/orange wooly bugger. We caught several nice bass and one 5lb catfish. The water on the San Marcos is beautiful right now.

The bass are still eating! Floated the Llano today and caught quite a few bass and sunfish on hoppers. The weather was amazing. The water is crystal clear. as long as it stays warm topwater flies will continue to work.

Another awesome day on the Llano River. I floated near Mason with Jeff Davis and Clay Towery. We caught quite a few nice Guadalupe and largemouth bass. Poppers and leech patters both worked well. Jeff Davis caught several lunkers on my favorite flip-flop popper. If the weather stays nice the fishing should remain good for a few more weeks.

Fished the Llano above Castell with Ron Linehan today. Maybe the best fishing this year! We fished on top with hopper patterns. We caught so many fish we decided not to tell anyone because it was unbelievable.

Fished the Llano River today. Floated above Mason and fishing was good. Bass and sunfish are still coming up to the top. Hoppers and poppers worked well. If the weather stays warm fishing should continue to be good for a few more weeks.

The Llano River has been really good for the last couple of weeks. Lots of fish and a few really nice ones. Fishing has been best later in the day after the water warms up. Fish are still rising to hoppers and poppers. For larger fish try a bugger or baitfish pattern.
The Colorado River below Austin has also been producing some nice fish. Big bass and quite a few catfish on the fly! Try weighted streamer patterns in brown, black or white.

Fishing on the Guadalupe is starting to pick up. After a few slow days over the weekend we had a good day today. I a half day float with Paul and Gail Wallace and we boated about 10 fish. The fish of the day was landed by Gail. It was a nice rainbow that may have gone 20". The best fly today was a black midge size 20. Check out Gail's fish!

Good fishing on the Guadalupe this week. The best fly has been a black midge fished deep. We have caught fish on eggs and mayfly emerger patterns as well. Quite a few large trout as well as a couple over 20" in the last couple of days. The largest fish was a catfish caught on an egg pattern!

Trout fishing has been good the last few days. The fish have been very picky but they will eat if you find the right fly. Small midge patterns in black and white sizes 20 to 26 or larger prince nymphs and pheasant tails are good bets. Check out this weeks fish pics.

Lots of bugs on the water and lots of choices for the fish. Most of the fish we caught in the last couple of days have been on the swing. Try a small mayfly emerger or a caddis imitation. Good fishing during the last couple of weeks. quite a few big fish on small flies. Gray or olive RS2's in sizes 20 or 22. A lot of fish are eating the emergers so make sure to swing those flies out on the end of your drift. Here are a few fish pics.

Really great fishing lately. Lots of fish and quite a few in the 20 inch range. Cloudy days are defiantly better because the water is getting really clear. The best flies have been emerger patterns. Try an rs2 in olive or gray. Caddis emergers have also been working well. And don't forget to swing those flies at the end of the drift.

Trout fishing on the Guadalupe is in full swing right now. There are lots of fish in the river and the fishing has been really good. Very clear water right now calls for small flies and light tippets. 4x, 5x and 6x tippets and size 20 and 22 flies. Check out the latest pics.

Trout fishing was really good the last few days. Lots of big fish on small flies Rs2s, wd40s, hares ears and egg patterns have all been choices. Light tippets and don't forget to swing those flies on the end of the drift.

Great fishing everywhere. Trout fishing is going strong on the Guadalupe. Small rs2s and midges are still working well. The fish are also starting to key in on some larger flies. Try a hares ear or a Copper John above your small fly. The bass fishing on the Llano, San Marcos and the Devils River is getting going also. These warm days are getting the fish moving. Try a popper or a hopper.

Fishing continues to heat up the weather gets warmer. Good fishing on the San Marcos recently. Try a large hopper pattern. Chernobyl Ants are the ticket on the Llano. Good fishing everywhere. The trout are still biting on the Guadalupe. Best bets are to go during the week or fish really early on the weekends to avoid the growing crowds. For a little bit more solitude try the Llano or San Marcos. The bass are on the feed and most days you will have the river to yourself.

Fished the Guadalupe with Pat Ottinger today. Fishing was great in the morning. Maybe a dozen fish before lunch. Caddis emergers and Mayfly emergers were the hot patterns. The sun and heat put the fish down after lunch though.

Great fishing on the Llano River this past weekend. Last weeks rains brought the river up and the fishing turned off on Wednesday. The water cleared up on Friday and was gin clear by Saturday. Great fishing on topwater flies. Try a hopper pattern or a popper.

Good fishing the last few days on the Colorado River below Austin. Good catches of large bass and catfish . Quite a few gar on the fly up to 48". Best flies are subsurface patterns like wooly buggers and crawfish patterns. A few fish were caught on topwater patterns.

Great fishing on the Llano River today. We did the float down to the James river. Clear water and lots of fish. All fish were caught on small poppers and Chernobyl ant patterns. Get out and fish the Llano River before it gets too hot.

Great fishing today on the Llano River near Mason. The water was low and clear and the fish were looking up for hoppers most of the day. as the day got hotter we had good luck fishing deeper with Clouser minnows.

Floated the San Marcos River the last couple of days. Good fishing and really clear water. Most of the fish are still taking surface flies, Hoppers and poppers in black or green seem to be the best choices.

Great fishing on the Eagle River this week. The flows are down and the caddis hatch is in full swing. The best fishing has been with caddis drys and a nymph dropper in the morning and a pmd dry in the afternoon. The Colorado has been fishing well also. Hopper dropper rigs have produced the most fish.

Fished the Colorado River below Austin. The water is low and very clear. We caught quite a few bass in the 1 to 3 pound range as well as a couple of 3 to 5 pound catfish. The Best patterns were crawfish flies in brown or tan. Black wooly buggers and pink baitfish imitations also produced.

Fished on the Llano River today. The temperature was in the mid 80s most of the day and it was partly cloudy. Perfect fishing weather. Fishing was really good starting around 11:00. The best fly on the Llano today was a small black and yellow popper with long rubber legs. We caught quite a few nice Guadalupe Bass and Largemouth Bass and we lost count on the sunfish within the first hour. Right now is one of the best times to fish the Llano river. Fishing should be good for at least another month.

Great fishing on the Colorado River today. bass up to 5 pounds on black wooly buggers. Best fishing was in the moving water. Quite a few fish on top including a few on a mouse pattern. The Colorado River is very clear right now and should fish well into November.

Fished the Llano today. The flow was up after the rain a couple of days ago. The water was up a little but very clear. The fish were a lot more active after the temperature warmed up a bit. We caught a few fish on top but sub surface flies were the best today. The best patterns were Clouser minnows and wooly buggers.

Fishing on the San Marcos River today was good. We caught a few nice bass and sunfish. A few fish rose to hoppers but sub surface flies were more productive. Weighted leech flies in black and brown worked best. Try anything with rubber legs. The San Marcos River is low and clear right now, but still has enough water for a nice float.

Great fishing on the Colorado River. We floated a stretch of water between Austin and Webberville. The water was very clear and the fish were very active. We caught bass and panfish all day. Several of the bass were over 3 pounds. The most productive patterns were weighted leech and crawfish patterns as well as an assortment of surface flies. Right now is one of the best times of year to fish the Colorado River. The combination of cooler temperatures and the reduced flows really makes for perfect conditions.

Did a float trip on the San Marcos River today. Really good fishing. The best fly was a brown and red deerhair diver. Most of the fish we caught today were largemouth and smallmouth bass. The largest fish was a smallmouth in the 3 - 4 pound range.

Awesome fishing on the Colorado River! We caught quite a few bass today. Several in the 3 lb range. Most of the bass were caught on deerhair divers. Several of the larger bass and one catfish were caught on a weighted black leech. Right now the Colorado River is fishing as well as any river in the hill country. The fishing should continue to be good for at least another month, maybe longer depending on the temperatures.

Fished the Devils River with Kevin Stubbs of Expedition Outfitters. The Weather was perfect and the water was unbelievably clear. Good catches of smallmouth and largemouth bass. The best fly patterns were black weighted wooly buggers and brown crawfish patterns. The next month should provide some great fishing on the Devils River.

Fished the Llano River near Mason today. The river was very very clear. The flow is still good despite the lack of rain. We caught fish on hoppers during the warmest part of the day. Small streamers were the ticket in the morning and the afternoon.

Great fishing today on the Colorado River. We caught several dozen bass throughout the day. All of them were caught on surface flies. We were using some larger patterns to discourage the smaller fish. Deerhair divers or poppers were most effective. The Colorado River has really turned on in the last few weeks. The quality of the fishing is as good as anything in the hill country. Fishing should continue to be good until the weather really cools down.

I spent the last couple of weeks on the Devils River. Good fishing and beautiful weather the whole time. This is truly one of the most remote and hard to access rivers in the lower 48 states.

We fished the Colorado River today. We floated down to the little Webberville boat ramp. Cold north winds and much cooler temperatures slowed the morning fishing. After lunch the fish were much more active. Clouser minnows, wooly buggers and even poppers produced bass and sunfish.

I fished today with Brett and Hannah Hoskins. Hannah is 10 and had yet to catch her first fish on the fly. We fished he Colorado River near Webberville. The fishing was slow for the first part of the day, but later in the day we got a few fish on poppers. Hannah got her bass!

Great fishing today on the Colorado River. We caught quite a few nice bass a few sunfish and one really large white bass. The best flies were black or purple leeches. Weighted flies or split shot on the leader will help get your flies down deeper. Fish a little slower and farther out from the bank.

Great fishing on the Colorado River below Austin. We caught quite a few white bass in the 3 lb range. The best fish were a 5 lb largemouth bass and a spotted bass in the 3 lb range. The best flies were weighted crawfish patterns and large baitfish patterns.

We had some of the best trout fishing of the season today. We caught quite a few trout and most of them were in the 14" to 16" size range. We put a few in the boat in the 18" to 20"range. The best flies were dark olive streamers or small mayfly emergers. We caught a few fish on eggs as well.

Great fishing on the Guadalupe today. We caught quite a few fish and the average size was 16". We caught a couple of fish in the 18" to 19" range. Eggs worked early. Later in the day we caught fish on midges and mayfly emergers.

Another good day on the Guadalupe. I fished with Bill Tenso and his 8 year old son Justin. We hooked a couple dozen fish and landed a good number of them. Justin caught his first fish on a fly rod. Best fly today was the black midge emerger in a size 20.

The trout fishing on the Guadalupe continues to be hot. We caught quite a few nice trout. The fish were very picky, but with the right fly patterns they were pretty aggressive. the best flies were mayfly emergers and midges.

Friday the 13th was lucky! We fished the Colorado river between Austin and Webberville and the fishing was great. Largemouth and spotted bass to 3 pounds ad a couple of 5 pound catfish were all caught on Crawfish patterns. Try using a sinking line in the deeper holes. Things should heat up as the weather warms.

Valentines day fishing. The day started off slow and cold. The temperature got colder but the fishing got better in the afternoon. We caught several nice fish up to 20". Best fly patterns were small mayfly emergers.

More picky fish on the Guadalupe. We did manage to hook 6 or 8 fish on a few different flies. Trico emergers were the best pattern. Everything had to be just right and the fish would eat. Very rewarding once you figure out the pattern.

Great fishing today on the Colorado River. Ryan Sparkman caught largemouth bass, spotted bass, freshwater drum, catfish, and a carp over 30" all on the same Clouser minnow. As we move into spring and summer the Colorado will only get better.

Cold and rainy on the Guadalupe. The trout were happy for the cooler temperatures. Fishing was very good. We caught quite a few fish on nymphs and a few nice ones on streamers. Don't be afraid to fish in the rain.

We fished 2 days on the Guadalupe. All 3 fishermen were total beginners. By the end of the weekend everyone was competent with a fly rod and had caught trout.

We floated the Llano River near Mason today. The water was cool in the morning because of the recent rains. Fishing was slow in the morning but picked up in the afternoon. We caught a few bass and sunfish on streamers as well as hopper patterns. The Llano should really turn on in the next couple of weeks.

Good fishing on the Guadalupe River today. Recent rains have increased the flow and dropped the water temperature. The trout have really responded. Most of our fish today were caught on egg patterns or mayfly emergers.

Slow fishing this morning on the Colorado. We did manage to catch a few nice Guadalupe Bass after lunch. The best flies were a weighted Clouser and a rubber legged bugger on a sinking line.

Good fishing today on the Guadalupe River. The conditions were tough, sunny and windy. We still managed to land over a dozen fish. Most productive patterns were size 20 RS2s, San Juan worms and eggs. 11 year old Hollis Grigsby showed her dad and the rest of the guys how it was done.

Good fishing on tax day. We did an early morning float on the Guadalupe River. We caught a few nice fish early on mayfly and caddis emergers. Fishing slowed down mid morning but picked up after lunch. Soft hackle hare's ear nymphs and bwo emergers worked well in the afternoon.

Great fishing today with Jeff Davis on the Colorado River. We caught quite a few nice bass up to 6 pounds. All our fish were caught on topwater patterns. The flip flop popper in bright green was the best fly. A few fish ate a deerhair frog. The Colorado is hot right now.

More great fishing on the Colorado River. We caught a good number of bass in the 1 to 3 pound range. We hooked a few in the 5 to 7 pound range. Most of our fish were caught on various topwater patterns.

9/12/09 We fished the San Marcos River this morning. In spite of recent heavy rains the river was clear. We got off the river by noon but still managed to catch a few fish on hopper patterns.
9/18/09 and 09/19/09 We had a couple of slow days on the Colorado River. We caught a few bass on streamer patterns. Fishing should improve as the weather stabilizes into more fall like pattern.
9/28/09 Good fishing today on the San Marcos. Nothing huge but quite a few fish. Most of the fish took a large nymph dropper below a hopper. We did get a few fish on the hopper later in the day.
9/29/09 Great fishing today on the Llano River. The day stared off cloudy and rainy, but by noon it was bright and sunny. In the morning most of the fish were eating a San Juan Worm under a cricket fly. After the sun came out all the fish were caught on top.
10/02/09 Another good day on the San Marcos River. Lots of sunfish and a few bass. The rig of choice was the hopper dropper set up.
10/07/09 Really good fishing on the Llano River today. The river was flowing at a really good level for this time of year. We caught quite a few bass including a couple of large ones. Most of the fish were caught on poppers or hopper patterns.
10/16/09 Fished the Llano River near Mason today. The flow continues to hold up and the fish are eating. Time to fish a little later in the day and use streamers or other sub surface patterns until the water heats up.
10/19/09 Another good day on the Llano near Castell. The day started off cloudy so we fished subsurface in the morning and switched to hopper patterns after the sun came out. The Llano River is very clear right now.
10/23 - 10/31 /09 We spent the week fishing on the Devils River. Conditions were tough but we did manage to catch a few really nice largemouth and smallmouth bass. The best patterns were large streamer/ leech patterns in orange, black and chartreuse.

11/1/09 I fished the Colorado River today with Merlin and Paula Tuttle. We had an ok day. Fishing was better later in the day. We did manage to hook a few larger bass on rabbit strip streamers. Chartreuse seemed to be the best color.

11/2/09 We fished the Llano river near Mason today. The weather was beautiful and the river was very clear. Fishing was slow in the morning but got much better after lunch. We had the most luck fishing deep with wooly buggers in black and purple.

11/3 - 11/6/09 Better fishing this week on the Devils River. We caught a few bass in the 3lb to 6lb range. The best patterns were large crawfish imitations
11/8/09 We had a cold rainy day on the Llano River. Not the best conditions for bass fishing this time of year. We did manage to catch a few nice Guadalupe bass on Clouser minnows and wooly buggers.
11/12/09 Great fishing today on the Colorado River near Webberville. The fishing was better later in the day. Most of our fish were caught on black rabbit strip leeches. The fish, mostly Guadalupe Bass were holding in the moving water near the banks.
11/18/09 Really good fishing on the Guadalupe River today. We landed a dozen fish up to to 19" on egg patterns and midges. The water temperatures are in the 50s and the fish are very strong.The Guadalupe is in really good shape right now. The flows are up and the water is very clear. Time to go trout fishing

11/24/09 Guadalupe River fishing was ok today. We managed to land a few trout up to 20" today. The best fly patterns were zebra midges and caddis emergers.
11/25/09 Another decent day on the Guadalupe River. The fishing was slow in the morning. We did manage to catch a few nice fish in the afternoon. The most productive flies were streamers on Olive and yellow.
11/27/09 Good fishing today on the San Marcos River today. We got quite a few strikes from some nice fish. We managed to get a few of them in the boat. A slow sinking line with a bright green rabbit leech was the best fly.
11/28/09We did an afternoon float on the Colorado River today. Fishing was really good. We caught quite a few nice largemouth and spotted bass. All our fish were caught on crawfish patterns.

12/11/09 We worked hard today on the Guadalupe, but we got a few nice fish. The best patterns were a midge emerger and a San Juan worm. The bonus of the day was a nice catfish caught on a fly.

12/12/09 Good fishing today on the Guadalupe River. The best fly was a size 20 Trico emerger fished deep under an egg.
12/13/09 Fished a half day this afternoon on the Guadalupe. We managed to get a few trout on midges fished on the bottom.

12/27/09 Great fly fishing today on the Guadalupe River. We caught quite a few fish including several over 20 inches. The most productive patterns were trico emergers and brown San Juan worms.
12/30/09 Really good fly fishing today on the Guadalupe River. We caught quite a few nice trout including a couple of real monsters. The best flies were Trico emergers and San Juan worms.

1/09/10 Coldest day of the season so far. 12 degrees on the river at 8:00 am. We bundled up and had the river to ourselves. Not much bug activity but we did manage to hook 6 or 8 trout including a couple of really large ones. The best fly patterns were Trico emergers and egg patterns. Most of the fish were holding on the bottom of the river.
1/12/10 Good fishing today on the Guadalupe River. The fishing was definitely better during the cloudy parts of the day. We hooked quite a few fish on Trico emergers, eggs and San Juan worms. Several of the fish were over 20".

1/16 and 17/10 Fishing was a little slow but the trico emerger managed to fool a few nice trout.
1/18/10 We did a half day float this morning on the Guadalupe River. It was cold and foggy with no bugs hatching. We did manage to catch a few fish including an 18 incher.
1/20/10 Another cold foggy winter day on the Guadalupe River. The fish didn't seem to mind though. We caught a few large trout including one in the 24" range. The best flies were black midges and a pink egg.
1/21 and 22/10 We had a couple of good days on the Guadalupe. Cold rainy and foggy but the fish were eating. Best fly patterns were trico emergers, prince nymphs San Juan worms and the pink egg.

1/24/10 Very windy morning on the Guadalupe. We hooked a couple of fish on a black midge and got off the water by noon.
1/26 and 27/10 We had a couple of nice days on the Guadalupe. Fishing was pretty good. The best flies were the black midge, San Juan worms and a sucker spawn.
1/28/10 Rainy and cold once again on the Guadalupe river. We had a hardy group of fly fishermen and we managed to hook some nice trout. Egg patterns in orange and pink were most productive.
2/01/10 Great Fishing today on the Guadalupe River. We caught quite a few nice fish. Because of the rainy weather we had the river to ourselves. We caught fish on midges, trico emergers, eggs and a couple on a prince nymph.
2/04/10 Another good day on the Guadalupe First time fly fisherman Scott Krause Hooked and landed some nice trout. Midge emergers and the sucker spawn were the most productive patterns.
2/06/10 Decent fishing today on the guadalupe. We hooked some large, hard fighting fish on tiny flies. The trico emerger in a size 20 was the best pattern.
2/10/10 The weather today was really tough. Luckily we managed to hook a few nice fish. The pink sucker spawn and the black midge emerger were the best producers.
2/15/10 Good fishing today. We hooked a bunch of fish on the pink sucker spawn and the trico emerger. 5x tippet made it hard to get them to the boat though.
2/20/10 Great fishing today on the Guadalue River. The water was slightly off color because of the increased flows but the fish didn't seem to mind. The best flies were an orange egg and the trico emerger.
2/21/10 Another great day on the Guadalupe. The fish have really responded to the higher flows and the water is clearing up. We hooked and landed quite a few nice trout on small flies. The size 20 trico emerger seemed to be a favorite.
2/22/10 The trout fishing on the Guadalupe continues to be good. We did a 2 boat trip today and the fish were eating all day. We are seeing flows higher than they have been in several years. As a result the fish are really eating right now. Trico emergers, egg patterns, nymphs and San Juan Worms all produced fish.
2/27/10 Good fishing this morning on the Guadalupe River. We caught quite a few fish before noon. The fishing slowed down in the afternoon but we continued to catch fish throughout the day. The best fly patterns were a trico emerger and an orange egg.

3/04/10 Fishing continues to be great on the Guadalupe River. We caught quite a few fish over 15 inches today including one over 20 inches. Most of the fish were caught on a black midge or a trico enmerger. Remember not to put too much pressure on those tiny hooks.
