I did a little scouting on the Colorado River this morning. I put in in Smithville and ran upriver about 7 miles. It was pretty cold running the boat but as soon as I shut it down it was time to take off the coat. The river is low and clear this time of year and the fishy spots are pretty obvious. I made a few casts in a few likely spots and sure enough the fish cooperated. Mostly Guadalupe Bass with a few Largemouths in the mix. Clouser Minnows seemed to be the favorite pattern. I switched to a gigantic leech pattern and got a strike from something huge. Unfortunately my rod snapped on the hook set so the fish is still unidentified. I know where he lives and I will be back.
